One Feather in the Air: Full Moon Lessons from a Defiant Chicken

Lessons from a defiant chicken illuminated by the full moon: the quiet truth that won’t stay caged.

March 31, 2026

You don’t expect a hen to become a teacher—but here we are.

I call her One Feather—because of the single feather that never quite falls in line.

She doesn’t either.

Every day, like clockwork, she finds a way out of the coop.

And not quietly.

She struts.

She stirs.

She wreaks just enough havoc to remind everyone she’s not here to blend in.

The others?

They cackle and cajole.

They try to coax her back into order, back into the rhythm, back into what’s expected.

I do the same.

To no avail.

Because One Feather isn’t interested in compliance.

Last night, as the others dutifully marched into the coop,

she paused…

looked straight at me…

and gave me her version of “the finger.”

One Feather.

My favorite F-U bird.

I stood there—somewhere between annoyed… and deeply impressed.

I went to bed restless, already dreading the morning.

But at first light, there she was.

Back with her flock.

Unbothered.

Unapologetic.

Like nothing had happened.

That’s Full Moon energy.

The “Look at meeee!” kind.

The kind that refuses to dim, even when it disrupts the neat and tidy.

The kind that doesn’t ask for permission.

And maybe that’s what One Feather is here to teach.

Not rebellion for the sake of chaos—

but expression for the sake of truth.

A reminder that sometimes growth doesn’t look like fitting in…

it looks like stepping out.

Even if it ruffles feathers.

Even if it gets a little loud.

So today, take a note from One Feather.

Think outside the coop.

Turn up Authority Song—good and loud.

And step into your own power.

Because the truth is…

the parts of you that refuse to stay contained

might be the most honest parts of you.

The ones that rise.

The ones that don’t fall in line.

The ones that stay—

just a little…

in the air.
